Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant

This is the one we send people to for their first proper Southern meal, and it is right here in Sevierville rather than up the Parkway. It sits in an old farmhouse on the Little Pigeon River, in an apple orchard complex with a cider bar and a general store attached.

Every table starts with warm apple fritters and apple julep, before you have ordered anything. That is not an upsell, it just arrives. Then it is fried chicken, country ham, pot roast, chicken and dumplings, with sides that keep coming. Portions are large in a way that is not a marketing claim — plan on leftovers, and the cabin has a full kitchen and fridge for exactly that.

Best time to go is early. Lunch just after they open, or dinner before 5:30pm, otherwise you will be waiting, especially in October and December. Weekend breakfasts are lovely and busy in equal measure.

It is family-friendly, casual, and nobody will look twice at a group of twelve. Take a walk down to the river afterwards before you drive back — it is five minutes and it helps.
