A week where nobody gets left out

Coffee before the kids are up.
Mornings start on the main-level deck, two mugs and the mountains still waking up. The dogs settle at your feet. It's the one quiet hour of the day, and the sisters usually take it together. Keep an eye on the tree line. Bears wander through this part of the mountain often enough that a lot of families see one from the deck.

Then the house wakes up. The little ones come first. The teenagers come last, once they smell the bacon. Eggs and bacon in the big skillet for everyone, with a high chair and kids' dishes in the kitchen for the smallest guests.

Out for the day, or not at all.
Maybe the Cades Cove loop, 35 minutes away, for a slow drive and a chance at more wildlife. Maybe Townsend, 20 minutes down the mountain, for lunch and a walk around Apple Valley Mountain Village. Or maybe nobody leaves except to grab groceries, because the whole week can happen right here.

And if it rains, nobody minds.
The pool room is the reason. The water is 94 degrees and 3 to 5 feet deep, so the 4-year-old and the teenagers are in the same pool, and the parents pull up chairs on the pool deck with the mountains across the windows. Rain on the glass, kids in the water, and a week that never once falls apart.

Evenings all end up downstairs.
Food trucks set up every night on Wears Valley Road, so dinner can be easy. Back at the cabin, the basement fills up: a pool table rematch, another round of virtual pinball, two cousins fighting it out at the arcade game. The hot tub is right outside on the lower deck. Sooner or later, everyone ends the night in the pool.

The dogs come too.
They're part of the family, so they're part of the trip. Up to two dogs, any size, with bowls, a leash, towels, poop bags, treats, their own blankets to lie on, and cleanup spray for the muddy-paw moments. A short leashed walk takes them to a grassy spot nearby.

Room to spread out, close enough to be together.
Two families, two family rooms. The main level has the kitchen, the queen bedroom and a family room with an electric fireplace, where the grown-ups end up after dinner. Upstairs, a second family room has a queen sleeper sofa, a DVD library and a half bath, close to the king bedroom. Three bedrooms have their own full bath, so nobody waits in line in the morning. And the kids get the bunk room in the loft, which they'll claim the minute they walk in.

The quiet side of the Smokies

The Preserve Resort is a well-kept cabin community near the top of the mountain outside Sevierville. Pull in and the mountain view opens up on the right. The road up is curvy and steep in places, fully paved, and part of why it's so quiet up here.

Townsend, the quiet side of the Smokies, is about 20 minutes away. It's the best bet for dinner out, and Apple Valley Mountain Village and its cafe are a favorite stop. Cades Cove is about 35 minutes away, and the Pigeon Forge Parkway with Dollywood and the shows is about 30. On the way back up, the food trucks on Wears Valley Road take care of dinner every night.

Good to know

• Check-in is 4pm, and check-out is 10am.
• Pets: up to 2 dogs, any size. The pet fee is $150. There's no fenced yard, so dogs need to stay on a leash outside.
• Getting here: the mountain road is paved, curvy and steep in places. In winter, 4-wheel drive is recommended.
• Water: the resort runs on community well water, and bottled water is a good idea during a power outage.
• Pool service may stop by during your stay to care for the pool.
• The resort's community pool isn't included. You have your own.
• Security camera at the front door only (video, no audio).
• No smoking, no parties or events. Children and infants are welcome.

Questions families ask before booking

Can we bring our dogs?
Yes. Up to 2 dogs of any size are welcome for a $150 pet fee. We leave out bowls, a leash, towels, poop bags, treats, dog blankets and cleanup spray. There's no fenced yard, so dogs stay on a leash for walks to the grassy area nearby.

How warm is the pool, and how deep?
The private indoor pool is kept at 94 degrees and runs from 3 to 5 feet deep. It's inside, so it's ready rain or shine, all year.

Is the pool private?
Yes. It's inside the cabin and just for your group. The resort's community pool isn't included.

Is it good for little kids?
Yes. There's a Pack 'n Play, a high chair and children's dinnerware, plus a bunk room in the loft. The pool is 3 to 5 feet deep, so little ones will need an adult with them.

What's the drive up like?
The mountain road is paved and well maintained, with some curvy, steep stretches. In winter, 4-wheel drive is recommended.

How far are Pigeon Forge, Townsend and Cades Cove?
About 30 minutes to the Pigeon Forge Parkway, 20 minutes to Townsend and 35 minutes to Cades Cove.

What's the cancellation policy?
Cancel 14 or more days before check-in for a full refund. Cancellations within 14 days of check-in are non-refundable.

Is there wifi?
Yes, high-speed wifi throughout, and Roku TVs in every bedroom and the main living areas.

The Preserve Pool Lodge is located in the beautiful Preserve Resort

You will need to drive to the resort and should be able to find the cabin easily with your favorite maps app. There is free parking in front of the cabin.

◆ This property requires a $300 security deposit. Your payment method will be collected through Hospitable after booking.
◆ Your booking will not include access to the resort amenities such as the resort pool. You will have your very own pool to enjoy at the cabin!
◆The pool service may need to come to the cabin to service the pool during your stay.
◆The roads to the cabin are paved and well maintained and easy to maneuver in the summer will all vehicles. During winter months, 4 WD is highly recommended. Please review the winter information provided after booking.
◆ The cabin gets its water from a community well. If there is a power outage, this can affect the water pumps that supply the water. It is a good idea to bring bottled water in case it is needed.
◆There is one security camera located on the front of the cabin near the front door to capture video of access to the front door and the parking area. The cameras record video only, no audio.
